Sunil Chhetri is an Indian professional footballer Who was born on 3rd Aug. 1984 in Sikandrabad of Andhra Pradesh. His father KB Chhetri played in his early days while mother Sushila played for the Nepal national football team. Being the son of an army man, Sunil Chhetri got a chance to travel across the country and often changed his schools. But one thing that did not change was his passion for football. Sunil Chhetri, 16, was enrolled for class 12 in a college in New Delhi, Then He was invited up to the Indian team to play in the Asian School Championship in Kuala Lumpur in 2001. Mohan Bagan, one of India’s oldest and most famous football clubs, spotted the talent of Sunil Chhetri in the tournament and included him in their squad for the upcoming domestic season. He used to play football so that he could get admission in a good college and pursue his further studies. However, fate had something else planned for Sunil Chhetri. Sunil Chhetri was first included in the senior Indian football team in 2005 and scored his first goal against Pakistan. Sunil Chhetri’s first international tournament was Nehru Cup in 2007 with India and his four goals through the event helped the team to lift the trophy for the first time since 1997. Sunil Chhetri created history in 2021, He equalled Brazilian football great Pele as soon as he scored a goal in the SAFF Football Championship against Nepal in Male. Chhetri then scored 77 goals in international football, equal to Pele. In 2021 itself, Sunil Chhetri surpassed Argentine superstar Lionel Messi to reach second place in the list of active players scoring the most goals in world.
